Bush Shows Solidarity With Families of Fallen Soldiers: Gave Up Playing Golf

Sunday, May 18, 2008

The President of the United States says he hasn't had a round of golf since August 2003 when the 22 people died in a truck bombing at the UN headquarters in Iraq. UN envoy Sergio Vieira de Mello was among those killed.

The president was playing golf when he was informed of the incident and decided that it "sends the wrong signal" for the Commander-in-Chief to be playing golf during wartime.

"I don't want some mum whose son may have recently died to see the Commander-in-Chief playing golf. I feel I owe it to the families to be as - to be in solidarity as best as I can with them," said Bush.
