Lawyers for quarterback Michael Vick have said their client is planning a return to the NFL after he completes his jail term. Vick is in prison after being found guilty of running a dog fighting ring out of his home.
The statement of a return to the NFL was made before the US Bankruptcy Court. A disclosure statement read: "The Debtor has every reason to believe that upon his release, he will be reinstated into the NFL [and] resume his career..."
According to the hearing, Vick has assets of US$16 million, with liabilities numbering over US$20 million. Throughout his Atlanta Falcons career, Vick supported extended family, bought houses and cars and ran himself into a financial mess.
