Rain Suspends Levelled Game Five of World Series

Tuesday, November 4, 2008

Heavy rain in Philadelphia has suspended the fifth and perhaps deciding game of this year's Baseball World Series between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Tampa Bay Rays. The suspended game was level 2-2 when the rain came down.

The Phillies are up 3-1 in the series (SN reported) and the contest will continue once the weather eases up. It is the first time a World Series game was suspended without at least 9 innings being played. Rain is forecast for the next few days.

MLB commissioner Bud Selig said: "It will be resumed when I believe that weather conditions are appropriate. It will definitely be a night game. Whether it's Tuesday night or Wednesday night or Thursday night or whenever."

Wayne Rooney's Agent Banned from Practicing

Monday, July 14, 2008

A disciplinary commission for the English FA has banned Wayne Rooney's agent Paul Stretford for 18 months and fined £300,000 for misrepresenting Rooney's interest when he first signed to Stretford in 2002.

The FA brought nine charges against Stretford under FIFA agent regulations and the committee found him guilty of seven of them. Stretford plans to appeal, saying the banning was "a travesty". The ban will not go ahead until the appeal has been heard.

Benny the Bull Gets Sued

Tuesday, April 29, 2008

Benny the Bull, the Chicago Bulls' mascot, is being sued after a failed attempt to give a high five. On February 12th, Dr. Don Kalant was sitting courtside when he raised his arm to get a high five when the mascot grabbed his arm as he fell forward.

The dentist stayed for the rest of the game with a hyperextended arm and a ruptured bicep muscle. Because of these injuries the dentist could miss as much as four months of work and has had to have surgery.

Kalant is suing Barry Anderson, who wears the mascot uniform, for being negligent and "running out of control" through the crowd. The New Orleans Hornets defeated the Chicago Bulls 100 - 86 that night.
